PCS Renewable
High School Scholarships

Pacific Christian School occasionally has capacity in certain high school grades. When that capacity exists, welcoming additional students allows the school to make better use of its existing classrooms, programs, and staffing—without a corresponding increase in operating costs.
Because independent schools in British Columbia receive a per-student government grant (currently just under 50% of public-school funding), enrolling additional students—even at a reduced tuition rate—can increase overall school revenue. In practical terms, this means that each additional student helps support the broader school community, easing financial pressure and contributing to long-term stability.
For his reason, PCS is introducing a limited, renewable scholarship program for new high school students only. This program is designed to:
- remove access barriers for a small number of mission-aligned students, and
- strengthen the school’s financial health in a way that benefits all families.
This is not a tuition discount for current students, nor a shift in our overall tuition philosophy. It is a strategic, values-aligned use of available capacity, introduced carefully and reviewed regularly.
The scholarship will be renewable annually, contingent on continued engagement, contribution to school life, and alignment with PCS expectations. In this way, the program reflects both formation over time and responsible stewardship—two commitments that sit at the heart of our school’s mission.
Why are these scholarships limited to new students?
This program is intentionally designed to support enrolment growth where capacity exists. New students bring additional government grant funding and tuition revenue, even when tuition is reduced. This creates a net financial benefit for the school without increasing costs—something that is not true when tuition is reduced for existing students.
How does this benefit current families?
Additional revenue helps:
- stabilize the school’s financial position
- reduce pressure for future tuition increases
- strengthen programs and staffing already in place
In this sense, the scholarship program is designed not only to help individual students, but to support the entire PCS community.
Isn’t it unfair that current families can’t access this scholarship?
We understand this concern. This scholarship is not a reward or benefit being withheld from current families; it is a strategic enrolment tool. Current families already contribute to the school’s stability. This initiative is designed to strengthen that stability further—something from which all families benefit.
Existing families who experience financial need continue to be supported through PCS’s financial aid program, which remains separate from this scholarship.
Why offer a renewable scholarship instead of a one-year award?
A renewable model provides families with the confidence to commit to PCS long-term and allows students to grow more deeply into the life of the school. Renewal is not automatic; it is reviewed annually to ensure continued alignment and contribution.
Does this mean PCS is offering “free tuition”?
No. While some scholarships may be substantial, they are:
- limited in number
- reviewed annually
- offered only where capacity exists
- tied to clear expectations
The goal is not free tuition, but strategic access paired with shared responsibility.
Will this increase class sizes or strain resources?
No. Scholarships will only be offered in grades or programs where the school has capacity. We will not exceed staffing, space, or program limits.
How many scholarships will be available?
The number will be intentionally small and determined annually based on enrolment capacity, financial considerations, and leadership review.
How will PCS know if this is working?
We will evaluate:
- enrolment stability and retention
- student engagement and contribution
- financial impact on the school
- feedback from families and staff
The program will remain subject to adjustment or discontinuation if it no longer serves the school’s mission or sustainability.
